Galley Equipment Logistics and Delivery Management

Getting galley equipment from the manufacturer to the installation position aboard the vessel is more complex than it appears. Professional commercial kitchen equipment is heavy, often fragile and must be delivered at precisely the right moment in the installation programme — too early and it occupies yard space and risks damage from ongoing construction activity; too late and it holds up the installation, extending the project programme and increasing yard costs.

Our logistics and delivery management service handles the complete supply chain from the manufacturer's despatch to the vessel's commissioning position — including freight, customs clearance, port handling, yard delivery and on-site positioning. We manage this process for every project we supply, whether the vessel is at a European yard or in a port on the other side of the world.

International Freight and Customs

Superyacht projects frequently involve delivery of equipment across international borders — from European manufacturers to yachts being built or refitted in Turkey, Croatia, the UAE, the Far East or the Americas. Each border crossing introduces customs requirements, import duties and documentation obligations that must be managed correctly to avoid delays and additional costs.

For equipment being delivered to a vessel for permanent installation aboard a vessel on which it will leave the import country, specific customs procedures — particularly the Temporary Importation (TI) regime and the yacht's Carnet de Passage — may eliminate or defer import duties. We work with experienced maritime freight forwarders and customs agents who understand these procedures and ensure that equipment is imported under the most advantageous available regime.

Yard Delivery and Positioning

Delivering large commercial kitchen equipment to a working shipyard requires coordination with the yard's logistics procedures — obtaining delivery access, booking the crane or material lift, timing delivery to avoid conflict with other ongoing work and ensuring installation engineers are available to receive the equipment. We coordinate all of these elements directly with the yard's project manager.

Large items — combi ovens, hood-type dishwashers, provision stores — may need to be delivered and positioned before adjacent joinery is installed, as they cannot pass through standard doorways once the interior is complete. We identify these installation-sequence constraints at the specification stage and flag them clearly in the delivery schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions: Galley Equipment Logistics and Delivery

Can you deliver galley equipment to any country?+
Yes. We have managed equipment deliveries to shipyards and vessel locations throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean and the Americas. Each destination has specific logistics requirements — local freight partners, port handling procedures, customs regimes — that we navigate through our network of specialist maritime freight forwarders. For deliveries to less common destinations, we research and plan the logistics route in detail before equipment is ordered, to ensure that delivery is achievable within the project programme.
How do we avoid paying import duty on galley equipment?+
Equipment being permanently installed aboard a vessel that will subsequently leave the importing country may qualify for relief from import duties under the Temporary Importation regime or equivalent provisions in most jurisdictions. The vessel's Carnet de Passage is the primary document that enables this relief. We work with our customs agents to advise on the applicable relief in each destination country and ensure deliveries are structured to take advantage of available duty relief. The specific procedures vary by country — we advise on the applicable process for each delivery destination.
What happens if equipment is damaged in transit?+
All equipment we supply is insured for transit damage. If equipment arrives damaged, we document the damage immediately — photographically and in writing — for insurance purposes, and initiate the insurance claim and replacement process. We manage the claim and replacement entirely on the owner's behalf. Where the damaged item is on the critical path, we work urgently to source a replacement from the fastest available source — which may mean sourcing locally rather than waiting for a replacement from the original supplier.
How do we coordinate delivery timing with the installation programme?+
We develop a delivery schedule at the start of each project that maps each equipment item's required delivery date against the installation programme and the item's procurement lead time. This schedule identifies the latest possible order date for each item and flags critical-path items that must be ordered first. We monitor production and despatch progress against the schedule and alert the project manager to any slippage immediately so that contingency action can be taken. Regular communication with the yard's project manager throughout the procurement period ensures that any programme changes are reflected in the delivery schedule promptly.
Some galley equipment is very large — how is it positioned inside the vessel?+
Large galley equipment — combi ovens, provision store refrigerators, hood-type dishwashers — must often be positioned before the surrounding joinery is installed, as the equipment is too large to pass through doorways once the interior is complete. We identify each item's positioning sequence requirement at the specification stage and communicate it clearly to the yard's outfitting team. Where possible, we also check the access route from the delivery point to the installation position against the equipment's largest dimension to confirm access is achievable. Equipment that is too large for access through normal routes may require the yard to plan for access through an open deck or hull opening.
Can you deliver spare parts to a vessel in an overseas port?+
Yes. Spare parts delivery to vessels in overseas ports is one of our most common after-sales activities. We ship spare parts internationally via air freight for urgent requirements, and coordinate customs clearance in the destination country where necessary. For common-failure items, we advise vessels to carry specific parts aboard to avoid dependence on international shipping in critical situations. For parts that are too bulky or expensive to carry aboard, we maintain stock information from our supplier network and can advise on the fastest available supply route for any part.
Do you manage the unpacking and installation of equipment?+
Our logistics service includes delivery to the installation position within the vessel. The physical installation — connecting utilities, integrating with joinery, levelling and securing — is typically carried out by the yard's engineering team based on our technical specifications. Where the yard's team requires support with specific installation requirements, we can provide on-site technical assistance. For projects where we have full project management responsibility, we coordinate the installation team as part of our scope. We attend commissioning on all projects to verify that installation has been completed correctly before equipment is handed over.
How do you handle equipment returns or exchanges?+
Equipment returns and exchanges are managed through the supplier relationship we maintain on each project. Where a specification change requires a different item, we arrange the return of the original item and supply the replacement as part of the project management. Returns of installed equipment that has been damaged or found to be faulty are managed as warranty claims where applicable. We maintain all original packaging information and supplier delivery records to support returns and exchange processes.
