Equipment Sourcing — The Superyacht Galley

Professional Equipment Sourcing for Superyacht Galleys

Equipment sourcing is the process of identifying, evaluating and procuring the specific appliances and systems that make up a superyacht galley. It sounds straightforward, but the reality is considerably more complex: the superyacht galley draws from multiple overlapping equipment markets — marine-specific equipment, professional commercial kitchen equipment, specialist beverage and refrigeration — each with different distribution channels, pricing structures and lead time patterns.

Navigating these markets without specialist knowledge leads to predictable outcomes: equipment specified from the wrong category (residential instead of commercial), procured through the wrong channel (retail instead of trade), arriving on the wrong timeline (after the installation window has closed) or from a supplier with no appropriate after-sales capability. Our equipment sourcing service exists to prevent these outcomes.

What Equipment Sourcing Includes

Our equipment sourcing service covers the full procurement process from specification to delivery:

  • Equipment identification — determining the correct appliance category, manufacturer and model for each position in the galley specification
  • Market evaluation — comparing alternatives across performance, reliability, lead time and total cost of ownership — not just purchase price
  • Technical specification — providing the complete technical data sheet for each specified item to the installation team
  • Supplier engagement — obtaining competitive pricing from approved distributors and evaluating supply terms
  • Order management — placing orders with the correct specifications, monitoring production and despatch, tracking delivery
  • Delivery coordination — arranging delivery to the yard or vessel location with appropriate handling for large or fragile items

Why Source Equipment Through a Specialist

Independent equipment sourcing through a specialist delivers three categories of advantage over direct procurement by the owner, manager or yard:

Specification quality — a specialist with knowledge of the brands, models and common failure modes in the superyacht galley sector will specify equipment that actually performs in service. The differences between models that look similar on paper — ambient temperature rating, construction quality, service network — are not apparent from a specification sheet and require operational experience to evaluate correctly.

Commercial advantage — trade-level relationships with distributors and manufacturers provide access to pricing and supply terms not available to end users. Volume purchasing across multiple projects creates additional leverage that reduces unit costs.

Risk management — a specialist understands the lead time landscape for each equipment category and plans procurement accordingly, preventing the critical-path delays that occur when long-lead items are ordered too late for the installation window.

Equipment Categories We Source

We source equipment across all galley categories: combi ovens, cooking ranges and induction equipment, refrigeration and freezers, dishwashers and glasswashers, laundry equipment, blast chillers, vacuum packers, ice makers, coffee systems, ventilation canopies and food preparation equipment. We maintain active supply relationships with all major manufacturers in each category.

Frequently Asked Questions: Superyacht Galley Equipment Sourcing

Why can't I buy galley equipment directly from manufacturers?+
Professional kitchen equipment manufacturers primarily sell through a trade distribution network — authorised distributors who hold stock, provide technical support and manage warranty service. Direct purchase from the manufacturer is possible in some cases but is typically limited to large orders with significant lead times and no local support infrastructure. Buying through a specialist distributor like us provides access to stock availability, local technical support, warranty management and competitive trade pricing that is not available through direct purchase channels.
How long does equipment sourcing typically take?+
Equipment sourcing lead times vary by item and supplier. Standard commercial kitchen equipment typically carries lead times of 4 to 8 weeks. Custom configurations, made-to-order items or equipment from manufacturers with constrained production capacity can carry lead times of 12 to 20 weeks. Marine-specific equipment follows similar patterns. We identify lead times for all items at the specification stage, flag critical-path items and place orders as early as possible to protect the project programme. The most common sourcing-related project delays arise from underestimating lead times — we prevent this with early order placement.
Do you source equipment outside your preferred brands?+
Yes. We source from any manufacturer when the brief requires it — owner preferences, brand specifications from a designer, or specific technical requirements that only one manufacturer can meet. We have no obligation to specific manufacturers and do not receive manufacturer commission or rebates that would create a conflict of interest in our recommendations. Our preferred brands represent our assessment of the best-value, best-supported options in each category based on operational experience — but the owner's preference always takes precedence over our default recommendation.
Can you source equipment urgently for a vessel already in service?+
Yes, and urgent sourcing is one of our most valued services for vessels already in operation. When a critical appliance fails aboard a vessel in an active charter programme, we work to identify the fastest available supply route — checking distributor stock throughout Europe and the relevant region, assessing air freight options and coordinating delivery to the vessel's port of call. We cannot always source immediately, but we consistently find faster routes than captains or managers working without our supplier network and knowledge.
Do you provide equipment warranties?+
Equipment we supply carries the manufacturer's warranty — typically 12 to 24 months for professional kitchen equipment. We register all equipment warranties on behalf of our clients and maintain warranty records. When a warranty claim arises, we manage the process with the manufacturer or service agent, including arranging service visits and escalating to the manufacturer's technical team where required. We act as the owner's representative in all warranty disputes, which is significantly more effective than an individual owner dealing directly with a manufacturer.
Can you source second-hand or refurbished galley equipment?+
We can advise on the used galley equipment market and assess specific used items on request. Our general position is that used commercial kitchen equipment can represent good value — particularly items that were lightly used or recently refurbished — but that the risk of purchasing used equipment without knowing its service history and condition is significant. We advise clients carefully on the trade-off between acquisition cost saving and increased operational risk before recommending used equipment for any but the lowest-criticality applications.
How do you handle equipment that arrives damaged?+
All equipment we supply is insured for transit damage. When equipment arrives damaged, we manage the insurance claim and replacement process — arranging return of the damaged item, placing an urgent replacement order and expediting delivery. The owner does not need to manage any aspect of the claims process. We inspect all delivered equipment before acceptance where possible and document any damage immediately for claims purposes. Prompt documentation of transit damage is essential for successful claims, and our delivery coordination process includes specific transit inspection procedures.
Is the equipment you supply certified for use on commercial vessels?+
Professional commercial kitchen equipment meets CE marking and relevant European safety standards, which are generally accepted by major flag states for use on commercially-coded superyachts. Where a specific vessel's classification society or flag state requires additional certification for galley equipment, we advise on compliance requirements before specification and supply equipment that meets the applicable standards. For vessels under construction at a classification society-supervised yard, we provide all required equipment documentation for the class survey process.
